Capall Mara, Sterling Silver Seahorse, Large

Some of the oldest seahorse stories tell of the Greek sea god Poseidon galloping through the oceans on a golden chariot pulled by Hippocampus, a beast that was half horse and half fish. Today, the seahorses’ scientific name also happens to be Hippocampus. It’s thought ancient Greek fishermen believed the real seahorses they sometimes found tangled in their nets were the offspring of Poseidon’s mighty seeds.

Our beachcomber jewellery collection is made up of sea offerings found along the shore line. Sea shells, dried starfish, sea urchins and of course the most magical of them all – seahorses; all tossed ashore; perhaps even, by Poseidon himself.

Capall Mara, seahorse in gaelic; is my favourite from our Beachcomber collection. Paying homage to this beautiful magical creature, it has been forever immortalised in silver. Cast from a real dried Seahorse and using the ancient method of lost wax casting. The casting has picked up all the detail of the original and very unusual fish.

This seahorse has been oxidised with a dark patina which highlights the depth and markings of the seahorse. Plain silver and gold plated also available in my shop.

Your choice of either a sterling silver ball chain, or a belcher chain. Please let me know upon purchase.

Each Seahorse bears my makers mark and a .925 London Assay hallmark.

Your pendant will arrive gift boxed.
